26.20 Military interventions must have clear goals, strategy, be properly resourced and be pursued with vigour and tenacity

Democratically elected politicians have the authority to use military force in defence of the nation’s interests and security. However politicians are not experts in military strategy or tactics, and they should not subvert those who are. Military interventions should have achievable goals. They should have a clear strategy properly backed up by appropriate resources, training, organisation, finance and logistics. Once embarked upon, military operations should be pursued with the utmost determination and patience.
