The elite class, the rich, corporate cabals, the political elite, religious leaders often use power to serve their own interests. Companies, lobbyists and special interest groups use money and other forms of influence to get what they want. Protected groups get special privileges, in theory to protect them, but this sometimes gets hijacked in a deeply undemocratic and counter-productive way. It is fine for each group in society to have a voice and a proportionate degree of influence, but no one should be allowed to manipulate the whole of society for their own benefit. This requires continuous vigilance and discipline.
