An individual’s liberty may only be taken away if they are lawfully arrested, imprisoned or controlled for their own safety due incapacity. This might, for example, include a child, a person with mental illness or a person with a life-threatening physical illness who is unable to give informed consent. People with life threatening infectious disease may lose their freedom in order to protect others, subject to the law.
