5.2 Maximise human potential through creativity, experiment, learning and entrepreneurialism

How can we maximise creativity, imagination and initiative?New Magna Carta Medium

How do we harness our collective intelligence?

What can we learn from other cultures?

What can we learn from pioneers and role models?

What can we learn from the past?

The prime value of Western Civilization is to maximise human potential and minimise suffering and pain. The waste of human potential through unemployment, inequality, low expectations, abuse, crime, dysfunctional personalities, limiting beliefs, discrimination, corruption, bad values, poor leadership and victim mentality is an avoidable tragedy. The potential of the majority of humans and our culture is a long way from reaching any natural limits. To achieve our potential, we must have the foundations of survival, security, heath, freedom, order, justice, opportunity, knowledge, fitness, love, relationships and fairness. People thrive when they have purpose and meaning. Science, freedom, reason, democracy, individualism, law and capitalism have been the core drivers of human progress. We have a huge evolutionary potential now due to global consciousness, the mass interconnections of people, the instant availability of knowledge and information, ease of travel and the availability of finance. Human development is increasing at an exponential rate thanks to the new technologies and consequent shifts in consciousness and behaviour. There is no guarantee of success. We could easily derail with all sorts of apocalyptic scenarios, but if we remain vigilant, maintain and optimise the foundations and clear away the obstacles, then we have a very good chance of thriving.

We can catalyse our evolution by promoting creativity, fun, play, experimentation, authentic diversity, learning and interaction. Play with different ways of seeing things. Look at things from as many perspectives as you can imagine. Try out new theories and paradigms. Learn from others. Learn from nature. Engage the global mind, the supercomputer of all people, through the internet.
